Reefs and wrecks, with the right expectations
Sri Lanka Tourism describes Hikkaduwa as a diving destination with reef and wreck sites. That variety is a reason to discuss the actual itinerary, not to assume every trip is suitable for everyone. Depth, current, visibility and access can change what is appropriate. A named wreck on a brochure is not a guarantee that it will be visited on your date.
First experience or certified dive?
If you are new to scuba, ask about an introductory programme, the briefing and practice before entering open water. If certified, share your qualification, recent experience and equipment needs. Tell the operator if you have not dived for a while so they can advise on a refresher. Confirm the instructor or guide arrangements and group size before paying.
Book for the conditions, not a promise
Keep some flexibility in your holiday. Ask the dive centre to assess the forecast and local sea conditions close to the day, including what happens if a trip cannot safely run. Do not make a fixed wildlife sighting or a particular visibility level the basis of your booking. Keep a land-based alternative such as Galle Fort or a villa day.
Small preparations make the day easier
Ask what the quote includes: equipment, boat transfers, number of dives and any extra charges. Complete the operator’s screening and follow their instructions on fitness to dive and travel after diving. Bring your certification where relevant, a towel and dry clothes. In the water, follow the guide, keep clear of coral and leave marine life undisturbed.
Before you go
- Confirm the operator, guide, site options and group size.
- Check equipment, boat transfers and cancellation terms.
- Allow flexibility for weather and follow the dive centre’s instructions.
A helpful detail
Does Bliss Blessings operate a dive centre?
This is a planning guide, not an offer of an in-house dive operation. Ask our team about local arrangements and confirm the actual operator before booking.
